For
those of you that are sports lovers in the Hyde Park / SoHo
area of Tampa, The Lime is a great restaurant with
fantastic food on South Howard Avenue. We wanted a seat
where we could watch Michael Phelps swim for his fourth
Gold Medal and we were in luck, I think I counted sixteen big
screen plasma TVs. There wasn't a bad seat in the restaurant!
We started dinner with an appetizer, Queso Blanco, a
warm cheese dip served with tricolor tortilla chips. The Queso
Blanco was delicious and the tri-color chips were freshly fried.
This isn't a typical cheese dip, the flavor is rich.
For dinner we ordered a Fiesta Bowl, a Chimmichanga
and a Grilled Tortilla Sandwich. The Ranchero Fiesta
Bowl was clearly a terrific choice and in my opinion the
best thing on the table; made with rotisserie fired chicken,
rice, diced bell peppers, tomatoes & bacon with papaya ranch
dressing tossed into a salad-like mix, the flavors merged
together in a medley of gastronomic delight! The Grilled Skirt
Steak, Pinto Beans & Mexican Rice
Chimmichanga was also a treat and liked just as much as the
Fiesta Bowl. The Ancho Lime Grilled Chicken Tortilla Sandwich
was deemed to be a little more ordinary, but nonetheless
perfectly prepared. The chicken was rubbed with lime and the
grilled tortilla sandwich was served with tomato, onion and
cheddar cheese.
To drink we ordered a Blueberry Sea Dog Wheat Ale that
we found extraordinarily tasty. The beer went down very
nicely complimented the papaya ranch dressing in the fiesta
Bowl. The side items served with the meals included beans and
rice and Yucca Fries that we decided are definitely the
way to go. The Lime also serves beer and cocktails in a way
we've never seen. Imagine a three foot tall cylinder with a tap
at the bottom sitting on a lazy Suzan in the middle of your
table. A handy way to watch a game and catch a buzz.
Even though the upscale decor with
lime green walls accented with white tile, several huge
banquettes and mahogany tables gives the impression that The
Lime was decorated with a sharp eye for design, this isn't a Gay
sports bar or restaurant (are we sterotyping?). The scene is a
little more testosterone driven than many of the restaurants on
South Howard in Tampa.
All said we thoroughly enjoyed our
meal and plan to return again and again!
