Khris Francis
at Dudes |
|
|
Khris
Francis
and his sharp wit have once again returned to Dudes. It doesn't take more
than a few minutes for him to warm up and cut up on everything from the Dudes
staff and customers to well, you name it. Last Friday night was no exception and
everyone in the packed-to-the-rafters nightclub, ended up joining in the
fun singing songs about Macaroni and #$%^, cheese and #$%^, creamed #$%^. If
you're looking for politically correct humor, this is not the guy you want to
hear. But if you can let loose, laugh at yourself, the guy next to you and laugh
at your mama, go see Khris Francis! |

Pride Factory
Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary |
Long
considered a South Florida gay & lesbian shopping destination, Pride
Factory is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
The specialty store and coffeehouse marks the event with a special
discount during the month of February customers are invited to save
10% on all purchases of $10 or more. Begun in an inauspicious
Broward Boulevard storefront a decade ago, Pride Factory has since
become a vital part of the local retail scene. The store moved to
its current location, 845 North Federal Highway, during 2000.
Shortly after, the establishment underwent a major expansion &
renovation which nearly quadrupled its footprint. Today, 6,000
square foot Pride Factory carries world-class lines of rainbow gear,
apparel, music, mainstream & adult movies, lubes, adult toys, books
& magazines. It has become a vital part of the region’s gay,
lesbian, bisexual & transgendered community. High-speed Internet
kiosks are also available, permitting on-the-go connectivity. For
tourists, a visit to Pride Factory is often included as part of
their travel plans. “Pride Factory has come such a long way since
the doors opened so many years ago,” recalls the company’s regional
manager, Rocky Bowell. For seven years, Bowell has steered
the store to success at a few different addresses. “Pride Factory
has moved a couple of times,” he explains. “We were first on
Broward Boulevard.
A Walgreen's is there now. Then, we moved to where a bicycle shop
is today, at Fourth & Federal. We moved here about six years ago.
The current location, south of Sears Town, permitted the huge
expansion into the Pride Factory you see today. That’s why we call
it America’s Gay Emporium.” Over the past decade,
Pride Factory has also become a significant supporter of the local
GLBT community. The company has been a participant in Win's Golf
Tournament, The Women's White Party, Winter Party, Pridefest, the
Stonewall Street Festival, and many other events & organizations.
Even more expansion is slated for Pride Factory, this time on the
Internet. A complete online store at PrideFactory.com is slated for
launch during the next several months. “I can hardly wait to see
what the future holds for Pride Factory,” remarks Bowell. “It’s
gonna be great!” |

THE SLEAZY’S ARE COMING—THE
SLEAZY’S ARE COMING |
The 3rd annual sleazy

event is a fundraiser to benefit local charities and has been able to donate

such people as best top in town, sleaziest bar owner & butchiest lesbian to name
a few. The charities that have been chosen this year are Lulu’s foundation
which is a pet rescue group and other local AIDS charities. The Sleazy’s are a
fun way to get bar owners, bar staff, and bar patrons together for a night of
fun and sleaze. Tickets for this event are $2.33 (it’s for charity, so cough up
a little more). If you want a table, you have to bring your own. The hosts of

Movie
Under the Stars |
Winterparty
and MGLFF present Movie Under the Stars featuring a
favorite from the 7th annual MGLFF (Guys and Balls) on
Wednesday, March 1st at 8:00PM at the Surfcomber Hotel (1717 Collins
Avenue).
If “misfit gay sports comedies” can be called a whole new genre of film, then
Guys and Balls takes that genre to a whole new level of hilarity. It’s got a
double-entendre title (this is a soccer flick), lots of goofy sports stunts and
revealing locker room scenes, a cute lovelorn hero, and a team full of every
possible wacky homo - from studly nurse and femmy Turk to a horny leather-bear
threesome. Throughout, the humor lurches in fresh new directions, with
laugh-out-loud sight gags and a wry send-up of silly sports machismo. In a rural
German town where soccer is everything, Ecki’s the champion goalie who just lost
the game. As if that’s not bad enough, the other players discover he’s gay and
banish him from the team. Vowing revenge, Ecki sets off to a nearby city to
start his own all-gay squad and challenge the homophobic heteros. It’s an uphill
battle, taking wide-eyed Ecki from a hospital delivery room (enter studly nurse)
to the slings of an S/M sex-club (enter leather-bears). Meanwhile, back at home,
Ecki’s weary parents endure homophobic gossip and a nonstop barrage of anal-sex
jokes from a cranky old man. If Ecki’s team can ever get their game together and
take on the hometown squad, we’re in for a raucous culture clash. Guys and
Balls never takes its' coming-out tale too seriously, thank goodness and it
keeps the romance light and sexy. After all, it’s only a game! (In German with
English Subtitles) Ticket Prices are $15 in advance (at
WinterParty.com)
and $20 at the Door. |
