Weekly Wrap-Up |
On Monday Elements presented the benefit to send Diva
to Miss Continental Elite. It was obvious that Diva is well loved in this
town by the amount of people that showed up to support this event and by the
amount of silent auction items that were donated to raise money for the event,
and by the amount of entertainers that showed up to perform. The event was a
huge success and raised lots of money to send Diva to
Chicago
in style.
Jennifer McClain
celebrated her birthday last week at Smarty Pants and on hand were nearly
100 friends (yes, I counted) to sing along and wish her well. Owners Mark
and Fritz put out a wonderful buffet and filled the place with loads of
balloons. Two cakes, with a number of candles that we won't reveal were
presented and yes Jennifer blew all of them out! Happy Birthday Jennifer
from all of us at Mark's South Florida List.
Saturday night is ladies night at Elements as Alison
and Julie present the weekly Ultra Party. Last weekend the ladies
turned out en masse for the 3rd annual She Magazine She-King contest.
Eight contestants vied for $1,000, a huge trophy and of course, the King's
crown. In the end Spikey Dikey came out as the winner.
Jackhammer's 3rd
Annual Easter Bonnet contest had the boys out early for Sunday T.
It's always surprising to see how many butch guys will create incredibly ornate
Easter bonnets and then show up at Jackhammer wearing them. Kudos to Russell
and Chris for another Easter Sunday we won't soon forget.

film, Reinas (Queens),
the stage of the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts welcomes an
incredible duo to kick off the 8th annual
Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival
with lots of
sabor! Legendary Latin American star Charytin joins forces with
Miami's own beloved drag queen Adora as their 2006 Opening Night Divas of
Ceremonies. In keeping with the theme of Reinas (Queens), which
stars an incredible cast of Latina divas from Spain and Argentina, including
Carmen Maura, Marisa Paredes, Verónica Forqué, Mercedes Sampietro
and
Betiana Blum, their 2006 Divas will kick off the 8th annual MGLFF with
skits and songs that bring the legend of "La Rubia de America", Charytin,
and the unstoppably outrageous Adora together with full-color,
over-the-top life!
The singer and comedienne Charytin is a star of
screen and stage whose nothing-but-hits career has included chart-topping

2006 Global Groove Tour
hits full stride in the nation's top dance clubs,
Dj David Knapp
steps it up with a new
Global Groove CD
that blends his signature beats and diva-driven vocals. Global Groove: Dj David
Knapp is David's fourth mix for the Global Groove brand, which includes

David and fellow Global Groove
Dj Kimberly S
are currently headlining the 2006 Global Groove Tour, which is visiting 30
cities in 6 different countries. "David's upbeat mixes have certainly
contributed to the success of the Global Groove brand since it was
introduced
in 2000," says Centaur's Chief Operating Officer
Jamie Baxter.
"The planning and energy David has put into his latest Global Groove CD is
indicative of his talent and desire to always be at his best."
David has drawn
from a global pool of award winning artists, producers and remixers to make

A live recording of the one-night-only benefit concert WEDrock,
held in New York City on April 28, will be released on CD by
Centaur Entertainment on May 2. The album features a
star-studded line-up of musicians and entertainers all lending
support in favor of equal marriage rights for same-sex couples.
Proceeds from the WEDrock album will support
Freedom to Marry, the gay and non-gay partnership working to
win marriage equality nationwide. Men-about-downtown
Josh Wood and John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and
the Angry Inch) produced the rockin' concert of music,
comedy and mayhem, with the goal of raising the roof and
consciousness on the hot-button topic of proposed federal and
state constitutional amendments to write discrimination into
marriage law. "I think it's important for artists to speak
out against discrimination and add our voices in favor of
equality for all," says John Cameron Mitchell. And
featured artist Bob Mould says, "The fact that the
right is making a gigantic moral issue of gay marriage should
outrage most Americans. If you take the religious argument out
of the picture, you eliminate a lot of the rhetoric that the
Right base their arguments on."
Included in the WEDrock live recording are the
wildly and wonderful acerbic Sandra Bernhard, the
side-splitting, funny-lady herself Margaret Cho, the
talented, glam-sensation John Cameron Mitchell,
the powerful indie rock sounds of Le Tigre and Sleater-Kinney,
Bob Mould of Husker Du and Sugar, and the Tony
Award winning actor Alan Cumming. The legendary Lou
Reed also makes a guest appearance, delivering a spoken-word
version of his classic hit "Walk On The Wild Side." The
proceeds from the album will go to support Freedom to Marry's
activities nationwide. Headed by Evan Wolfson, one of
America's leading civil rights advocates and lawyers, Freedom to
Marry brings new resources and a renewed context of urgency and
opportunity to this social justice movement. For more
information, visit the website at:
www.FreedomtoMarry.org.
WEDrock will be available in record stores
nationwide beginning Tuesday May 2, including Virgin Megastore,
Tower Records, Spec*s Music, as well as online at
www.centaurmusic.com where music samples are available for
each song. |
