Official Pridefest Parties 

Friday March 10th

  • The Pridefest VIP party for sponsors and press only is at Cathode Ray from 7:30 – 9:30. 

  • The warm up party starts at 10pm at Boardwalk Bar and features video star Brad Star

Saturday March 11th 

  • From 9pm till close is the women’s party at New Moon Bar with special guest Romaine from Out Q, Sirius Satellite, with special give-a-ways from Sirius all night long! 

  • The boy’s party starts at 9pm and is at Circuit Bar in Wilton Manors and features DJ Mixtress spinning till 3am!! 

Sunday March 12th 

  • Pridefest Brunch at Hamburger Mary’s from 11am till 1pm with special Brunch guests Pepper Mashay, Georgie Porgie, Rachel Panay, and Derek and Romaine

  • The After Party takes place at Voodoo Lounge with a Pride T Dance from 4pm till 11pm featuring free drinks from 4-6pm. In addition they will be featuring a book signing session of “Male Extremities” from author Robert Park from 4-5pm. DJ Paulie will be spinning your dance favorites in the main room, with DJ Miik spinning classic disco on the patio and DJ Nena spinning the Hottest Latin sounds in the Envy room. There will be performances by House Diva Vegas Dion as well as a special performance by recording artist Pepper Mashay at 8pm.

Unofficial Pride Parties
  • Elements features a weekend filled with celebrating Pride. On Friday March 11th Noche Latina Fridays celebrates Pride Latin Style with Special guest DJ Nena as well as HOT Latin Go-Go Papi’s in their pride colors. In addition the show will star house diva Champagne Bordeaux as well as special guests, Jury Too much, Misty Eyez. They also feature FREE DRINKS from 9-11pm. On Saturday they feature Lesbian Pride with the most packed weekly party in Fort Lauderdale for women who love women. On Sunday is “Black Gay Pride” for men of color and those that love them. This party is hosted by Lewis & Junior and features DJ Gavin T.
  • On Friday March 10th Manhattan South presents a Pre-Pride party with a new performance by the Sundancers and couple lessons from Lee at 8pm with open dance from 9pm till 3am with DJ Gina.
  • The Coliseum celebrates Pride all weekend long. On Friday they feature DJ Miik spinning in the main room and Daisy D spinning Hip-Hop in the front room. On Saturday they feature Circuit DJ Roland Belmares spinning with shows by TP Lords and the Coliseum cast.

Care Resource

Care Resource is proud to announce that Dr. Michael Cuenca will be joining their Broward Medical Team located on Oakland Park Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Care Resource is South Florida's oldest and largest HIV/AIDS service organization serving both Miami-Dade & Broward Counties. For the past 3 years, Dr. Cuenca has been the Medical Director of Community Health Care/Center One, and prior to that was the Medical Director at Clinic St. Christopher. In addition to his medical practice, he has been a principal HIV/AIDS drug investigator with 12 current ongoing studies. "I have had a long amiable relationship with Care Resource since arriving in Fort Lauderdale" said Dr. Cuenca, "I am greatly anticipating becoming part of the Care Resource team and feel their growth in Broward will be beneficial, especially as an alternative choice for medical services. I am especially happy that my current patients will be given the opportunity to continue with me at Care Resource starting April 1 and avoid a loss, or gap in medical care now that Center One is closing. I am also very eager to start working again with Dr. Robert Heglar who I have not only practiced with since 2001, but, with whom I graduated from the same program in Social Medicine."  Dr. Cuenca finished his Residency Program in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY in 1999 where he served as Chief Resident. It was here that he received inspiration to to take up HIV Medicine during the crucial period of 1996-1999 when HIV/AIDS changed from a grave and terminal illness to a chronic and manageable disease. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and has been certified since 2003 by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He is affiliated with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United, Beech Street, Humana, Medicaid, Medicare, and Ryan White. He has admitting privileges at Imperial Point Medical Center. Dr. Cuenca was born in the Philippines and grew up in Rhinebeck, New York. He lives in Ft. Lauderdale with his partner of 4 years, is a member of the gay swim team, the Hammerheads, and speaks Spanish and a Filipino dialect.

Pridefest 2006

Believe it or not a year has passed and it is once again time for the largest Pride Celebration in Florida to take place this coming Saturday and Sunday March 11th and 12th at the Holiday Park/War Memorial Auditorium. As most of you know Pride has been getting larger every year and this year promises to be the best, with the many changes that have taken place. In addition to changing the hours to 12-8pm, they have added an outdoor stage as well as rides and games, and much more surprises are in store for all who attend!! At press time the entertainment will be Pepper Mashay, Georgie Porgie, Rachel Panay, Quentin Elias, Comedian Kim Cea, Marky G, Derek & Romain, Alexas, Hypnotist John Simon, Nelson Polanco, Roughriders, Laffing Matterz, Gay Mens Chorus, Crossfire, Flamingo Freedom band, Lambda Chorale, Church of the Holy Spirit Song, Many of south Florida’s Female Impersonators, DJ’s John Alvarado, Michael Tank, Power Infiniti and Miik as well as special guest appearances by Jai Rodriguez (Queer Eye for the Straight guy), and Chuck Panozzo (Styx). Other Events
The Pet Project's friends and supporters are invited to an evening with a cocktail reception and a pre-set dinner selection at the Italian restaurant Bellissimo (1670 E Oakland Park Blvd). The event is on the March 8th from 7PM on. All the guests pay $20.00 for a pre-fixed dinner selection that includes soup, entree and desert.

Actors' Playhouse in Conjunction with CoralGaybles.com presents:   THE FULL MONTY on Thursday March 9th. This event includes a private pre show social from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. The African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) has joined forces with the Employment Guide magazine to host the Diversity Career Fair on March 14 from 10 a.m. to 3.p.m. in the library located at 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.  More than twenty-five local and national leading companies will be in attendance seeking skilled professionals for full-time and part-time positions. “We are more than pleased to inform and serve our community in this capacity,” says Julie Hunter, executive director of the AARLCC. Employers at the Diversity Career Fair will include: American Intercontinental University, Florida Education Center, Unifirst, Bank Atlantic, Marriott, Starwood Hotels, Broward Sheriff’s Office, Domino’s, Nationwide Credit, Burger King, Ocean Bank, American Express, Cox Radio, ARMY, Prudential Insurance, Kraft Foods, NY Bartending, Tandem Workforce, Navarro Security and more.  Prior to the event, AARLCC will host the “Get that Job” Resume Workshop on March 10,  from 3 to 5 p.m., where individuals will receive tips and guidance on resumes, portfolios and other career resources.  Seats are limited, and pre-registration is required for the workshop. Stonewall Library's Out Boys Movie Night Presents “The Trio on March 10, @ 7:00 pm with a suggested Donation of $2.00 and a discussion following Movie (time permitting). This is modern  German film about street crime, family relations, and gay/str8/bi love.  A sex comedy.  After several years of couple Zobel and Karl living happily in a trailer with Zobel's daughter Lizzi. The three operated successfully as pickpockets and scam artists.  However when Karl is killed by a car, the father-daughter team needs to find a new partner.  Here comes Rudolph, whose sexual ambiguity leads to a complex new reality.  Lizzie recruits Rudolf, a sexy and attractive young bisexual to whom both Lizzie and her father are attracted.  Then both Lizzie and her father try seducing Rudolf, ensuring that these three will not be a TRIO for much longer. This film is in German with English subtitles. Stonewall Library & Archives, Inc. 1717 N. ArtsUnited's signature event, ArtExplosion2006 opens from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Saturday, March 11, at the JM Enterprises Family Gallery at ArtServe.  The unique combination of a visual art exhibit opening reception, book signing’s by local authors, live theatre, comedy, vocal, dance and musical performances make this a must-experience event!  There will also be prize raffles and a Silent Art Auction, with proceeds benefiting ArtsUnited. Don't miss the (adults only) Erotic Art Exhibit this one night only!  ArtServe is located at 1350 East Sunrise Blvd in Fort Lauderdale. ArtsUnited is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that uses the arts to present a positive message about the gay and lesbian community. The ArtExplosion2006 visual art exhibition will feature over 50 local artists in a variety of media. This exhibit will be on display from March 6 through 18, Entrance to the exhibit is free and open to the public. Many of the artists will be on hand during the Opening Reception on March 11th. Beginning Monday, March 13th, and continuing on the second Monday of the Month until July, Arts United and Stonewall Library and Archives will present a workshop for GLBT writers.  The four sessions will include theme, character development, and publishing techniques. At the end of the four week session, the proposals and writing samples will be given to a publisher for review.  The programs begin at 7:00PM. The meetings will be held at the Stonewall Library and Archives. There is no charge for the program, but you must make a reservation thru email: media @stonewall-library.org

The next G.L.H.B.O.A. event will be on Thursday, March 16, at Hollywood Vine 2035 Harrison Street Hollywood, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Guest Speaker will be Mayor Mara Giulianti, of the City of Hollywood. Enter to win the door prize with every dollar bill donated. Wine & Cheese will be served.

Gay & Lesbian Happy Hour at Coconut Grove Playhouse (3500 Main Highway, Coconut Grove) on Thursday, March 16, beginning at 6:30 PM, performance begins at 8:00 PM. Master Organists of South Florida will present a "Benefit Concert for the Interfaith Coalition to Prevent Hunger" on Sunday, March 19, at The First Congregational Church of Fort Lauderdale (2501 Northeast 30th Street). Organists, Mark Jones, Rodney Giles, Jeffri Bantz, and Matthew Steynor are donating their time and talent to this endeavor. Works include "Carillon de Westminster" and "Adagio, from The Third Symphony" by Lous Vierne; "Passacaglia in C minor" and "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" by J.S. Bach; "Fantaisie in E flat" by Camille Saint-Saëns; "Fantasie in F minor" by W.A. Mozart; "Toccata, from The Fifth Symphony" by Charles-Marie Widor; "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber; and the "Hamburger Totentanz" by Guy Bovet. Tickets are $10.00 in advance, $15.00 at the door. Rabbi Harold F. Caminker, D.D., the spiritual leader of Congregation Etz Chaim, will hold an Informational Meeting to discuss World Pride in Jerusalem on Friday, March 24, following the Synagogue's 8:30 p.m. Sabbath Service.  Come find out about the August 5-13 trip to Israel with Etz Chaim and the other GLBT synagogues of North America to coincide with World Pride in Jerusalem, which culminates in a Pride event on the evening of August 10.  The trip will include visits to other remarkable places in Israel. (Itinerary and costs will be discussed.)  Cong. Speaking of Congregation Etz Chaim, they will be observing its 32nd Anniversary with an Evening of Celebration on Saturday, April 1, at the Airport Sheraton Hotel off I-95 and Griffin Road.  This year's honorees are Joyce Edelson, president of the Cong.
