Mr. Cupids
Contest |
|

|
|
Last Tuesday (Valentines Day) was the Annual
Mr. Cupids
Contest
at
Cupids Cabaret
in West Palm Beach, and I was once again honored to be asked to judge by
Brandy
(Cupids Queen B). The night started out with 10 of us meeting at
Electra’s
House (Madame’s Madame) and waiting for
Brandy,
Howard Marr
and
Khris
Francis
to show up with the Hummer Stretch Limousine that took us up to Palm Beach. Now
I have to tell you I have driven up to Palm Beach hundreds of times, but this
was by far the best way to travel up there!! Needless to say the Cocktails
started the moment we entered the Limo, and didn’t end to we left the Limo 6
hours late!!! I have judged the contest 3 or 4 times, but this year was by far
the BEST!! In addition to the
11 HOT
Contestants,
that took it all off for our viewing pleasure, the club itself was packed to the
rafters!!! A special Kudos goes out to Brandy and
AJ
who made this years contest the place to be on Valentines Day.

Bradley at Cathode Ray
|
|

|
|
Last Wednesday, the famous Bradley, occasional DJ and
frequent barback at Cathode Ray turned 21. On hand were his sister and
many fans of his weekly antics. Everything got a little out of control when the
Snatch Game began with a panel that included a special guest appearance by
Mark's South Florida List movie critic, Misty Eyez and other local
celebrities. Happy 21st Birthday Bradley!

Circus at Pawn Shop |
|

|
|
This past Sunday (President's day weekend) was the latest excuse for Gary
Santis to throw another one of his fabulous parties. This time we were all
treated to a spectacular event at Pawn Shop in Miami. This already hip
nightclub was decorated in a Circus theme and featured performances by
stiltwalkers, jesters on unicycles and acrobats using fire to wow the audience.
DJ Tracy Young spun the crowd into a frenzy. Kudos to Gary for another
fantastic event!

Gay and
Lesbian Community Center |
Wireless (or “Wi-Fi”) Internet
access has come to the Gay and Lesbian Community Center, (GLCC), where
computer stations in the Cyber Center are available for public use. With its
free wireless “Hot Spot”, users of the Center can bring their wireless laptops,
Wi-Fi handhelds and other Internet-enabled devices. As a result of a technology
grant of $2,500 received from Pride South Florida (PSF) following last
year’s Pridefest event, the GLCC purchased new Dell computers with flat panel
monitors for its public cyber center and front desk switchboard. This is the
first step in implementing the GLCC’s
Strategic Technology Plan.
The next step is to update the referral database used to provide information to
the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community. In addition to the
PSF grant, the GLCC received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of
Broward as part of the Strategic Technology Training program participation
in 2005. These funds used to set up the wi-fi connection, are also earmarked for
an up to date, state of the art, membership, donor and referral database. The
database conversion from the GLCC’s existing data to eTapestries is
nearing completion. Once up and running, data entry volunteers will be needed
to help input the most accurate information available on gay friendly
businesses, programs, services, social outlets, activities and events in the
community. “In addition to being a public
space for the GLBT Community, the Center is also a rental facility for groups,
events and meetings of many kinds” said Nicole Martin, Operations Manager
of the GLCC, “Having Internet access for meeting participants is adding value to
the rental service we offer, making it a more attractive rental space and
thereby enable us to generate additional needed revenue." Cyber Center computers
are available Monday through Friday
10am to
9pm and Saturday and Sunday Noon to
5pm. For information on
renting the GLCC for an event or meeting please call Nicole Martin (954)
463-9005 ext.227 or
nicole@glccsf.org.

Winterparty Presents Guys with
Balls |
Winterparty
and MGLFF present Movie Under the Stars featuring a
favorite from the 7th annual MGLFF (Guys and Balls) on
Wednesday, March 1st at 8:00PM at the Surfcomber Hotel (1717 Collins
Avenue).
If “misfit gay sports comedies” can be called a whole new genre of film, then
Guys and Balls takes that genre to a whole new level of hilarity. It’s got a
double-entendre title (this is a soccer flick), lots of goofy sports stunts and
revealing locker room scenes, a cute lovelorn hero, and a team full of every
possible wacky homo - from studly nurse and femmy Turk to a horny leather-bear
threesome. Throughout, the humor
lurches in fresh new directions, with
laugh-out-loud sight gags and a wry send-up of silly sports machismo. In a rural
German town where soccer is everything, Ecki’s the champion goalie who just lost
the game. As if that’s not bad enough, the other players discover he’s gay and
banish him from the team. Vowing revenge, Ecki sets off to a nearby city to
start his own all-gay squad and challenge the homophobic heteros. It’s an uphill
battle, taking wide-eyed Ecki from a hospital delivery room (enter studly nurse)
to the slings of an S/M sex-club (enter leather-bears). Meanwhile, back at home,
Ecki’s weary parents endure homophobic gossip and a nonstop barrage of anal-sex
jokes from a cranky old man. If Ecki’s team can ever get their game together and
take on the hometown squad, we’re in for a raucous culture clash. Guys and
Balls never takes its' coming-out tale too seriously, thank goodness and it
keeps the romance light and sexy. After all, it’s only a game! (In German with
English Subtitles) Ticket Prices are $15 in advance (at
WinterParty.com)
and $20 at the Door. |
