Starting Wednesday Dec 5th Sheriff Mike & Aleta presents Wild West Wednesdays at G Bar where they will be winding up the cowboys every Wednesday. They feature no cover and $1 drafts all night long. The round up starts at 7pm with DJ Aleta spinning today’s country hits and yesterdays favorites all night.  

The Sawmill Campground presents Happy Camper Weekend from Dec 7 till Dec 9. This is a nice relaxing weekend to spend with friends fireside, as they will be playing 70’s and 80’s music. Sidelines Sports Bar

Broward County Health Department is “wrapping up” its “Take Me, I am Free” condom and HIV information distribution campaign, after achieving its goal of establishing a network of venues in the gay community in which condoms are distributed free of charge. The campaign started with a community event sponsored by Georgie’s Alibi and Broward County Health Department in February of 2007. Community leaders, HIV prevention programs and entertainers came together in an effort to re-energize outreach efforts and get the community involved in the distribution of condoms and HIV prevention information. At the time, only local gay guesthouses were distributing condoms provided by the Health Department, but the involvement of the local business community was needed. “This is not just a condom drop off campaign; it is a community effort of HIV education and prevention. We are very thankful for the support we received from the local business community to achieve the campaign’s goals,” said Manny Rodriguez, HIV/AIDS Health Education Program Manager at the Broward County Health Department. The campaign consisted of the distribution of HIV prevention information, condoms, palm cards, condom jars, participation in the two pride festivals, special educational events at Noche Latina Friday’s and the Alibi and full page advertisements in gay publications. The campaign by the numbers: 250,000 condoms distributed from February to December 2007, 53 businesses participating, 10,000 palm cards distributed with local and statewide HIV/AIDS information, 4 large community events in collaboration with HIV prevention programs, Full page advertisements in local gay media, Ongoing and consistent visits to recruit local business participation with the slogan “Tis the Season to Wrap it Up”, several ads will appear in the local gay media during this holiday season, closing the campaign. The Broward County Health Department will continue to supply condoms and HIV information to the established network, as well as to reach out to new ones. More campaigns will introduce new prevention and education messages soon.
