Instinct Achieves 100,000 in Paid Circulation for 2007 |
|
Instinct Magazine, the largest gay men’s magazine,
announced that it's guaranteed base for 2007 will be
100,000 paid copies, an astounding 18% increase over its
2006 guaranteed base. Instinct reached this incredible
milestone by consistently achieving double digit
circulation growth every year for the past 9 years, a
rare feat in the publishing industry. But what
makes
this feat even more astonishing is that Instinct was
able to achieve this growth as an independently owned
national gay publication, something that even
PlanetOut Inc, a NASDAQ listed company and
publisher of Out and The Advocate, has not
yet been able to achieve. Instinct, audited by BPA
Worldwide, is one of only three national gay
publications whose circulations are verified by an
independent audit. Established in 1997, Instinct has
grown to become the leading independent gay national
print media. Instinct’s unique readership of young, gay
trendsetters who are affluent, highly educated, brand
loyal consumers with high disposable incomes, sets it
apart from all the other publications. “We have never
lost focus of what is important-keeping our readers
entertained and coming back for more,” states JR
Pratts, Publisher. “From their letters, as well
as,
numerous surveys and panels, we listen to what our
readers like and dislike and continuously strive to
improve the magazine.” “Keeping it real with our
readers is crucial,” states Mike Wood,
Editor-in-Chief. “We pride ourselves on providing
content that entertains and informs without preaching or
setting any ‘rules to living a gay man’s life.” “Supporting
local gay communities through event sponsorships and
participation has been key to Instinct’s enormous growth,”
states Sami Tarrab, Marketing and Circulation
Director, “It’s not about having your logo on
everything. It’s that mutual rapport and respect you
can only earn by having a consistent face- to-face
interaction with your readers – that’s what really
counts.” |

Featured Event of the Week |

Over 20 local
churches and HIV/AIDS service and prevention agencies are collaborating to
produce a series of programs to observe World AIDS Day on December 1.
The theme “STOP AIDS, Keep the Promise” focuses on accountability and
responsibility. Recognizing the growing infection rates among minorities, World
AIDS Day events will primarily take place at Carter Park, between Sunrise
Boulevard and Sistrunk Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, the heart of the historic
African American Community. The day’s activities run from
10:00 AM to
7:00 PM and
include programs for teens, adults and families and are free and open to the
general public. Local musicians, Hot 105 Radio Station and the Miami
Heat Mascot will be on hand to encourage participation and to entertain and
educate. There is even a hip/hop slam contest with prizes! In addition to
information about services and prevention, both Rapid and Ora-sure HIV
testing will be available. Keynote Speakers are Dr. Rosalind Osgood
of Mount Olive Church and Father Dennis Rauch. Performances throughout
the day will have an HIV educational and/or remembrance theme, with the focus on
prevention. The primary goals are to increase awareness related to prevention,
offer a safe environment for individuals to be tested and an opportunity for the
community to develop relationships with HIV/AIDS service and prevention
providers while decreasing the isolation and other barriers felt by this
community. The day ends with recognition of outstanding work in the HIV/AIDS
service area by the presentation of the Footsteps in the Sand Awards by
the Community Foundation of Broward, followed by a candlelight vigil
remembering those lost to AIDS. The public is encouraged to attend this special
program observing World AIDS Day. A press conference will be held at New
Mount Olive Baptist Church on Wednesday November 29th at
8:30 AM to encourage our community’s participation in testing, education, and
involvement at this family centered event. The World AIDS Day activities are
being made possible through the generous support of many organizations
including: North Broward Hospital District, Broward House, Commcare Pharmacy,
ANAC, MODCO, Starbucks,
Miami Heat, Ortho Biotech, Comcast, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
City of
Fort Lauderdale, Reach2010 and the
Broward
County
Public Schools.
Over 25 million people have lost their lives to AIDS. Over 100,000 cases of
HIV/AIDS have been reported in the State of
Florida,
and Florida ranks second in the nation in pediatric AIDS cases. Broward County
had the fastest growth in new cases last year. Of the cumulative number of
people with AIDS worldwide, 49% are black, 35% are white 16% are Hispanic.

"Ribbons for the Children" Art
Exhibit Opens November 30 |
|
The Children's
Diagnostic & Treatment Center
will host the "Ribbons for the Children" art exhibit opening reception
and auction on November 30, from
5:30 to
7:30 PM. "Ribbons for the
Children" is a collaboration between ArtsUnited, Inc. and the 9Muses
Art
Center. Ten local artists created original art pieces
using the AIDS Ribbon as their subject. They then donated their time, talent and
the art to the Children's
Diagnostic & Treatment
Center. The ten unique art works will be on display for the first time in this
exhibit. Each will be auctioned during the reception. With the help of Dennis
Dean Images, each art piece has been digitally photographed, and the images
have been reproduced on note cards. Sets of the ten distinct cards will also be
available for purchase during the reception. All the proceeds from the event
will go to support the many valuable programs of the Center. Children's
Diagnostic & Treatment Center is a nationally recognized Center of Excellence
offering family-centered, culturally sensitive medical care and social services
