Last Week Wrapped Up |
|
On Monday July 31st was
Diva’s 2nd annual Miss
Wilton Manors Illusion pageant at
Elements. She had 4 contestants vying
for the title and in the end Noel was
the 1st runner up and the new
Miss Wilton Manors Illusion 2006 is
Tionna Love.
For
those of you who have never had the chance
to visit Buck 15 and hang out at
Edison Farrow's Simple Life Thursdays,
you are really missing a great event.
Last Thursday was Dawn's Disco party
and the place was packed wall to wall with
one of the best looking crowds I've seen in
a long time. Buck 15 has been called, "The
most underground bar and lounge to ever hit
a second-floor loft space." One look and
you'll know it's simply "cool." While at the
club you can hang out and relax on funky
brown and orange cloth sofas or dance
on coffee tables that look like they're
straight out of the basement of That '70s
Show.
Last
Friday was the grand opening of China
White's Fag-Tabulous Fridays and it
appears that once again Jason Tamanini
and Jordan Bailey have put together
another fabulous event. Mizz Cori emceed
the party, Lady Ivy hosted the door
and of course there was spectacular eye
candy working behind every bar. Using a
music formula similar to their now legendary
Hump (Wednesday night), they brought
in DJ Shannon, famous for spinning at
Crobar's, Back Door Bamby. To borrow
a line from last week's ad, Fag-Tabulous
Fridays is "Fresh, Young, Hip... and
keenly cheap!" Congratulations to the
folks at China White!
For two years Peter Burke's Tea Cruise
has sailed the waters of the Fort Lauderdale
Intracoastal and none was more fun than last
Sundays Anniversary cruise. Performing on
the cruise were former Miss
Florida
Nikki Adams in the likeness of
Madonna and Deja D as Tina Turner. If
the girls weren't enough, Manny of
Helix Studios and Nick and Steve
of Boardwalk performed a scantily clad strip
show and then hung out with the crowd
afterwards. Also on hand were many local
celebrities including photographers J. R.
Davis, Pompano Bill and Marks list own
Stephen R. Lang. Our hats off to
Peter Burke for taking a chance two
years ago and daring to do something
different, and succeeding. |

Pride Factory Sees a
Sensation in the Making |
|
Less than a thousand days remain in the
presidency of George W. Bush. Pride
Factory helps South Florida mark the
countdown with a new line of Bush’s Last
Day© merchandise. “The 01.20.09™
gear is a sensation!” exclaims
Rocky Bowell, regional manager of
Pride Factory. “We saw the concept
at a recent retailer’s show and jumped
onboard. We had a hunch it’d catch on with
the customers at
our
Fort Lauderdale location. Well, they’re a huge hit! People are actually
making special trips into the store to buy
gear for themselves and to share with
friends.” The Bush’s Last Day line of merchandise includes collectibles,
wearables & stickables all emblazoned with
01.20.09. At
noon on that historic day, George W. Bush will no longer be
President. Who will be? Only the American
voters during the several hundred days until
then will determine who is to be the
nation’s new leader. An anonymous
Vermont
artist developed the 01.20.09 Bush’s Last
Day concept as “a wake-up call for those
59,439,413 of us who never voted for
President Bush; and for those that did vote
for President Bush…and now wish they never
had.” “I remember as a young man
walking past a button store on
McDougal Street in NYC, there was this
strange button in the window – it was a
peace sign,”
he says. “That symbol inspired a
generation and created a movement with the
courage to bring a terrible war to an end.
It’s not about the button. It’s about the
people who choose to wear one. And it’s
about knowing where people stand.” Pride
Factory is the only
Florida
retailer where customers can purchase
01.20.09™ Bush’s Last Day© items. The
popular GLBT specialty store & Internet
café, is located at 845 N. Federal Hwy
(south of Sears Town) in Fort Lauderdale and
is open daily. For more information,

Post Press
Release from Gay Games |
|
Chicago organizers of the 2006 Gay Games
released preliminary attendance estimates today for the July 15-22 Gay Games VII
Sports & Cultural Festival. "Attendance at Gay Games
Chicago events exceeded 140,000 - 40,000 more than we had
projected," said Kevin Boyer, Gay Games Chicago Co-Vice Chair. "We
estimate that attendance at events organized by the Gay Games was 107,500
including Opening & Closing Ceremonies, the Gay Games Expo, and all
of
the sports & cultural events. Official affiliated events and parties had an
additional estimated attendance of 33,000 throughout the week." Opening
Ceremony at Soldier Field had an estimated attendance of 32,000 while Closing
Ceremony at Wrigley Field had nearly 20,000 in attendance. The four-day
Gay Games Expo drew an estimated 13,250. Participating athletes & artists
numbered 11,500. "Ticket sales to sports & cultural events exceeded their
estimates by almost 50%," said Boyer. "While most sporting events
were free, we had projected to sell 8,000 tickets to some of the more popular
sports & cultural events. Ticket sales actually totaled around 12,000 with
several events selling out." The largest ticketed events included Figure
Skating (1,500 two-day passes) at
McFetridge Park,
Diving (1,075 two-day passes) at
Northwestern
University and Dancesport (1,075 two-day passes) at the Hilton Chicago. Almost
1,000 tickets were sold to the two Physique shows at Northwestern and more than
1,000 people bought tickets to the Volleyball medal rounds at Navy Pier. "While
there were thousands of tourists visiting from out of town, Chicagoans made up
the largest number of the spectators at our events as predicted," said
Boyer. "Gay Games
Chicago will be remembered most for the way the city and its
residents embraced this international event with open arms. On behalf of the Gay
Games organization, our sponsors and all of our out-of-town guests, we want to
thank everyone in
Chicago for the warm welcome they extended."
The Gay Games organization projects a financial surplus for the $9.5 million
event with financial details available before
September 30, 2006.
