Through a newly signed distribution deal with West End
Records, Centaur is excited to announce the release of the original
soundtrack album to the documentary film Gay Sex in the 70s.
Gay Sex in the 70s recently completed a six month, 25-city theatrical run
with a box office take of $249,565. The DVD of Gay Sex in the 70s is
currently available from Wolfe Video and Centaur released the soundtrack album
nationwide on July 11. Gay Sex in the 70s had its world premiere
at
the
Tribeca Film Festival and Out Magazine has hailed the film "The
Hottest DVD Release" of the summer. Director/producer Joseph Lovett
is thrilled to be one of the true Indie success stories of the year. "It's
gratifying to see such wide-spread interest in this piece of history while at
the same time proving the digital distribution model can work for true
independents," Lovett commented, referring to the fact that the entire
self-released, 25-city theatrical run happened without a 35mm print. "It's
important for the industry to have room for alternative voices to make a living
without having to sell-out or ignore their passions." Gay Sex in the 70s
is beautifully underscored by the hottest soul, funk, and disco anthems of the
70s. West End Records, the choice label of the 70s, was co-founded by Mel
Cheren in 1976 and quickly became the defining sound of New York City's gay
community in the heyday of Disco. The West End Records music catalogue
contains some of the most sampled songs in music history and is considered one
of the most significant labels in Dance Music history. Smash hits from West End
Records include Taana Gardner's "Heartbeat", Loose Joints' "Is It All Over My
Face", and Carl Bean's legendary gay 70s anthem, "I Was Born This
Way".
Gay Sex in the 70s
is from
Lovett Productions and was included in the Gay & Lesbian Films
Festivals in
New York, London, Sydney, Zurich, Los Angeles, Toronto, San
Francisco,
Philadelphia, New
Zealand and many
others. Film Synopsis: Documentary producer/director Joseph Lovett
focuses on the unbridled sexual passion and exploration that marked the twelve
years from Stonewall (1969) to the first reported cases of AIDS (1981). With
access to a filmic and photographic treasure trove of erotic life, Lovett's cast
of storytellers takes us from the remarkably repressed pre-Stonewall period to
an era of sexual excess unparalleled since ancient Rome. Straightforward, funny
and provocative, the subjects tell their stories with remarkable wit, humor and
perspective. For younger people - those who became sexually active after the age
of AIDS - this film may be a startling revelation of what everyday life was like
when American youth were cutting loose from Puritanical values and ascribing to
the watchword of the time "if it feels good, do it."

Novimari celebrates the decade of Dynasty,
Doc Martens and Princess Diana |
|
Cosmetic
and skincare newcomer Fierté and “made in Tuscany” retailer
Novimari will hold a theme party July 22 to celebrate the decade
of “Dynasty,” Doc Martens and Princess Diana. Special food and music from
the era will be presented at the neighbor stores in Victoria Park Shoppes at 6th
Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The ’80s holds particular meaning to Fierté CEO
and Master Artisan Gregory Yap Sam, who has spent 21 years in the
cosmetics industry. “I’m a true child of the ’80s,” said Yap Sam. “The
decade marks my many important milestones in my life, especially the moment I
first picked up a brush.” Fierté is the culmination of a nine-year dream for
Yap Sam, said Brad Koogler, director of marketing and public relations, and the
concept unique to the industry. “We focus on educating the client and
providing personalized attention in an intimate, up-scale boutique setting,”
he said. The studio, the first of 20 planned nationwide, offers Fierté’s own
brand of cosmetic and skincare products, personal client services and education
and bridal services and customized wedding packages. The store also serves as a
training facility for make-up artists and estheticians and a center for beauty
pageant contestant training and coaching. Additionally the Fort-Lauderdale based
company provides customized out-of-studio services such as employee incentive
packages for corporations, “celebrity treatment” packages for the event and
conference planners, and storyboards, design concepts and applications for the
fashion, photography, and film industries. The company recently undertook a
redesign of its flagship studio according to Koogler. The redesign includes more
casual client seating, enhanced product display for Fierté’s skincare system,
new flooring and accents, television visuals and more prominent merchandising.
Neighbor store Novimari is the only international brand fostering and promoting
the Made in
Tuscany
design, according to company CEO Stefano Matini. “Novimari is for the
discriminating buyer seeking traditional craftsmanship and quality, with a new
and unique modern approach,” said Matini. “All offerings are
individually crafted with artistry, love and experience.” Shoppers may
choose from a wide variety of home and personal accessories for registry,
housewarming, anniversary and birthday ideas including bed and bath, drinkware,
handbags, home accessories, interiors, jewelry, kids, kitchen, leather, natural
products, serving pieces, silverware and tableware. Matini and Novimari
co-founder Ilaria Niccolini joined artistic and business backgrounds in
2001 with the intent of representing Tuscan design. Both Florence natives,
Matini and Niccolini come from families of silk traders and crystal glass
producers. The two entrepreneurs have direct relationships with a variety of
Tuscan craftspeople and artisans which allows greater quality control and lower
retail prices than competitors selling Made in Italy products. Novimari also
operates as a consultant for architects and interior designers and creator of
its own exclusive designs, which are manufactured by the same producers the
company represents. All producers, located in the Tuscan region of Italy, are
well-established businesses in the European market known for the outstanding
quality of their craftsmanship. Most Novimari products are fully customizable to
answer creative challenges faced by homeowners, designers or architects. The
’80s party will occur from 6-8 p.m. July 22 at Novimari,
656 N.
Federal Hwy. and Fierté, 658 N. Federal Hwy.

Charles Ludlam’s Outrageous Spoof Pokes Fun at Classic
Gothic Horror Films the Mystery of Irma Vep is a campy tribute
to gothic
horror
films, liberally stealing from well-known film classics like
Wuthering Heights, The Mummy’s Curse and Alfred
Hitchcock’s Academy Award-winning Rebecca. Two of
South Florida’s favorite actors play all of the play’s eight
characters, racing through a literal quick-change marathon
complete with werewolves, vampires and damsels in distress.
Combine all that with crazy plot twists (two characters travel
from England to Egypt to inspect a mummy), and The Mystery of
Irma Vep guarantees fun for everyone. Written in 1984, The
Mystery of Irma Vep became the most popular of Ludlam’s plays.
It was named one of 1984’s best plays by Time Magazine
and The New York Times. Though many doubted that the play
would have appeal beyond the Ridiculous Theatrical Company
and its original stars, it became one of the most-produced plays
in the country, delighting audiences with non-stop action and
demanding tour-de-force performances. The two brave actors
taking on the challenge of The Mystery of Irma Vep in the
Actors’ Playhouse production are John Felix (Jane Twisden,
Lord Edgar) and Tom Wahl (Nicodemus Underwood, Lady Enid,
and others). Both are award-winning actors who have graced
multiple South Florida stages for the past dozen years. Most

Orlando Anti-Discrimination
Ordinance
|
|
This week,
Orange County
passed a FULLY inclusive
Fair Housing Ordinance (FHO)
that protects everyone, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender citizens.
This win was made possible only because so many cared so
passionately about fairness and equality. For over a year,
Equality Florida
has worked closely with local
coalition
members through the
Orlando Anti-Discrimination Ordinance Committee (OADO)
to pass an ordinance that protects all people from
discrimination when renting or purchasing a home.
Congratulations to OADO and all of their fellow coalition
members who worked side-by-side, united for victory. Joe
Saunders, Equality Florida’s Orlando based Central Florida
Field Organizer, spoke passionately at the County Commission
hearing about the need for all citizens to feel safe within
their own homes. By the end of the hearing, the
Commissioners clearly understood the commitment and passion of
all who spoke in support expanding protections.
The
amendment passed UNANIMOUSLY.
“We're thrilled that this was a unanimous vote. Today marks a
real victory for our community,” said Saunders. “Our
community packed the room of the
County Commission meeting. We told our stories and stressed the
importance of creating a fully inclusive housing ordinance.”
