Gay Games |
Chicago
organizers of the 2006 Gay Games announced today that award-winning actress,
vocalist, and soon-to-be talk show host, Megan Mullally, will participate
in the July 15 Gay Games VII Opening Ceremony. The ceremony will take
place at Chicago's historic Soldier Field, home of football's Chicago
Bears. Tickets start
at
$50 and are on sale online at Tickets.GayGamesChicago.org. Mullally joins a
slate of more than 60 music, television, arts, culture and sports legends from
around the world performing in the 2006 Gay Games
Opening
& Closing Ceremonies. Gay Games VII Sports & Cultural Festival will host 12,000
participants and tens of thousands of family, friends and fans from some 70
countries in Chicago July 15-22. Megan Mullally is best known for her role as
"Karen Walker" on NBC's hit television show, "Will & Grace." Her
Emmy and SAG award-winning performances provided many of the best moments on the
show. Once quoted as saying "I have like five zillion gay and lesbian friends,"
Mullally's popularity with the lesbian and gay community grew even stronger over
the course of the eight years that the series ran before its finale in May 2006.
"I think that Karen Walker resonated with the gay community because she was
such a no-nonsense personality; a campy, over-the-top smart-ass who treated you
the same whether you were straight or gay," said Mullally. "The part of
the Gay Games that appeals to me the most is the idea that everyone is equally
welcome to participate, no matter your ability or sexual orientation."
Mullally made her television series debut with Elaine Stritch and
Ellen Burstyn on "The Ellen Burstyn Show." Mullally also
appeared opposite Stanley Tucci as Walter Winchell's wife in
Paul Mazursky's award-winning bio-pic "Winchell" and opposite
Juliet Stevenson in Lifetime's "The Pact." She has
also appeared in the feature films "Anywhere but Here" and "Everything
Put Together." Mullally made her Broadway debut in the 1994 revival of
"Grease" with Rosie O' Donnell and appeared as "Rosemary"
opposite Matthew Broderick in the Broadway revival of "How To
Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." In addition to her Broadway
credits, Mullally has also appeared in a variety of plays and musicals in both
Chicago and Los Angeles. Mullally is also an accomplished vocalist. This
September, Mullally will host her own syndicated daytime talk show on NBC, "The
Megan Mullally Show." For more information, visit

NCL Cruise for
Two Drawing to Benefit Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus
|
|
You’ve talked
about it. You’ve worked hard and you’ve earned it. But you haven’t found the
funds yet to make it happen. Now you can. The Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s
Chorus/South Florida Choral Arts is now holding a drawing for a seven-day
cruise for two on Norwegian Cruise Line. The drawing is another way you
can support the non-profit chorus while perhaps being rewarded with a cruise
with your significant other from
Fort Lauderdale
to the Caribbean! “Norwegian
Cruise
Line has traditionally been a strong supporter of the chorus, and has been their
season sponsor for their 20th season, which concludes with their
upcoming June 17-18 ‘We Are Family’ concerts at the Broward
Center,” said Ross Carson, FTLGMC president. “But with the donation of
this cruise, they take their support of the chorus to a whole new level, and we
are deeply indebted to them.” Suggested donation price for each drawing
entry is $5. The drawing will be held during the Dec. 17 performance of
the Gay Men’s Chorus’ annual Holiday Concert, to be held Dec. 16-17 at
the Sunshine Cathedral. The winner need not be present at the drawing to
win (though the chorus hopes you are!) and will be notified by telephone and by
certified mail. The winner’s name will also be posted on the chorus’ Web site,
www.ftlgmc.org. The one cruise for two people
includes an outside stateroom with two berths and all meals and entertainment on
board. NCL will provide the recipient with a list of specific dates from which
he or she may select the cruise. A reminder that tickets for the June 17-18 “We
Are Family” concerts at the Broward Center are available from chorus members;
through the chorus’ voice mail, (954) 832-0060; online at
www.ftlgmc.org; or the AutoNation Box
Office at (954) 462-0222. Tickets are $40, $30 and $20 plus any handling charges
that may apply. Auditions for the chorus’ 21st season will be held
June 24 and July 29 at
1 p.m.
No pre-registration is required. Arrive at 1 p.m. and bring a piece of sheet
music of any style of music to sing. An accompanist will be provided. Rehearsals
resume Wednesday, July 19 (7:30-10:30 p.m., Sunshine Cathedral), with a first
scheduled performance at the Gay Softball World Series in Fort Lauderdale
on August 14. |

Centaur Welcomes DJ Max Rodriguez to the annual pride series |
 |
|
Centaur celebrates nine years of Pride the best way they know how -
with music. High-energy, uplifting, feel-good and familiar songs, remixed for
everyone's enjoyment. Pride 2006 would not be complete without
Party Groove: Pride 06,
Centaur's latest Pride CD, mixed by
New York's DJ
Max Rodriguez and in stores nationwide on June 20.
Centaur's annual Pride tradition started in 1998 with a two disc set of gay
anthems and dance classics continuously mixed by DJ Julian Marsh. In
years to follow DJ’s Joe D'Espinosa, Wendy Hunt and
Susan
Morabito appeared alongside Marsh, until 2002 when he once again took the CD
on solo. Marsh's retirement from Djing in 2005 was a heartfelt farewell and a
hearty welcome to DJ Max Rodriguez who will carry on the truly amazing tradition
of his predecessors. As a mainstay at New York's Splash Bar (SBNY)
practically since it opened in 1991, Rodriguez calls the comfortable Chelsea
establishment his Dj home base. A New Orleans native, Rodriguez arrived in
New York
to study audio engineering and pursue his passion behind the decks. DJ gigs at
Private Eyes (later to become Sound Factory Bar) and The Men's
Room in the early 90's later opened doors for Rodriguez at some legendary
clubs including Palladium, Limelight and the Roxy.
Rodriguez
has spun New York City Pride several times and has also been a
musical consultant for the VH1 Fashion & Music Awards. He currently has
a summer residency for the Fire Island Pines tea dances as well. "I take
personal pride in this musical journey," says Rodriguez. "I chose these
songs to reflect a feeling of love and self respect, and to celebrate the entire
gay community." Party Groove:
Pride 06 offers plenty for everyone, providing updated dance
remixes of some of the biggest songs to come from Whitney Houston, Madonna,
Elton John, Irene Cara, Bronski Beat and Josh Groban. New mixes of past
Billboard #1 hits "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" by Tears for
Fears and "Gyspy Woman (La-Da-Dee)" by Crystal Waters start
the CD off with familiar lyrics, leading into a new take on "The Wings,"
the theme song from the award winning movie Brokeback Mountain. Also
included is a remake of the classic favorite "The Love I Lost" and top
ten hits from the current Billboard charts include Danielle Bollinger's "Kiss
The Sky" and Judge Jules' "So Special." After leading us
through seventy plus minutes of heart felt, lush music, there's no doubt the
history, sensitivity and joyous power of Pride and the Pride CD series will
continue to shine under Rodriguez's prowess. Party Groove: Pride 06
will be available at stores nationwide including Virgin Megastores, Tower
Records and online at www.centaurmusic.com where visitors can listen
to samples of every track on the album. |
