The Tampa Improv
presents comedienne Eddie Griffin this Friday and Saturday March
7th and 8th. Friday at 8pm and
10:30pm and Saturday at 7:30pm and 10pm. Eddie
Griffin has become one of the most well known celebrities in Hollywood. But his
rise to the top of the industry has been an interesting one. A popular comic
turned actor who started his career on-stage as a dare, funnyman Eddie Griffin's
memorable supporting roles in such films as Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo
have built the comedian an ever-growing fan base and a path to his first
starring role in 2002's Undercover Brother. Born in Kansas City, MO,
Griffin's career began when he accepted a dare to take the stage on amateur
night at a local comedy club. Soon developing a personal style reminiscent of
such classic comics as Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx, Griffin gained
further exposure opening for comic Andrew Dice Clay on a 22 city tour and
later in a series of impromptu performances at Los Angeles' popular Comic Store.
Quickly following with performances on HBO's Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam
and a Cable Ace Award-nominated special, Griffin began branching out into
acting. Roles in such films as The Last Boy Scout (1991), Coneheads
(1993), and Jason's Lyric (1994) soon led to a sitcom (Malcom and
Eddie) in 1996, and Griffin's
film appearances became more frequent. After headlining 2001's Double Take
alongside Orlando Jones, Griffin earned his leading-man status, and with his
role as Anton Jackson in 2002's Undercover Brother, it seemed as if Griffin had
conquered not only the stage, but the silver screen as well. In addition to his
comedic skills, Griffin is also a gifted dancer and choreographer. This next
year promises to be a busy one for Griffin, with the movie Urban Justice, 62
Pickup and Bunyan and Babe.

Paul
Jacober Unique
Apparel
Paul
Jacober is a unique apparel line created by well known graphic
designer Paul Jacober whose mission is to recover Miami Beach Cool. Clearly
distinctive, the shirts have a vintage undertone mixed with an urban sensibility
without being aged or washed out. “The great thing about these shirts is that
it is the first REAL fashion-take on what some could consider a souvenir shirt,”
said Paul. “The reason being is that the shirts represent innovative and
imaginative designs on an upscale quality of shirt. All these details
strategically thought out allow the shirt to easily transition from daytime wear
to nighttime hip.” The latest collection of Paul Jacober tees is called ‘Nevermind
The Roses.’ This was a tongue-in-cheek excuse to play with the British
imagery craze that has overtaken the states. The graphics include union jacks
mixed with different iconic imagery such as deer’s (for all the deer hunting
Brits), Roosters (because everybody needs a British cock at least once in their
lives), a Grace Jones homage, spilled and broken Toile patterns and fancy
chandeliers. This collection steers clear of any frills and aims for a darker,
sophisticated and crisp cool look. Paul Jacober graduated from Pepperdine University
in Malibu before studying abroad in London. Paul has worked with various New
York institutions; the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, Vibe Magazine, and
Museums New York Magazine. In 2000, Paul started Jacober + Associates, a
design and advertising company. Some clients have included The Rubell Hotels
and Rubell Family Art Collection, Mark Soyka Restaurants/Properties, and Base
Clothing Store on Lincoln Road.
“I’ve been fortunate to live and work in four large Metropolitan cities like
Los Angeles,
London, New York and Miami. All of which have helped shape my design aesthetic
and opened my eyes to different clothing styles and ideas.”
“My designs work perfectly on garments. Creating cool attire is just a
natural extension of my specialty- great design.” The shirts retail between
$48-58 and are available at various boutiques, online stores and at
www.pauljacober.com.

Equality
Florida Action Alert
Continuing Epidemic Anti-LGBT
Hate Violence Must be Denounced by Governor Crist and Attorney General McCollum.
Last week
hundreds gathered in Broward County for a vigil to call attention to the
epidemic of anti-gay and anti-transgender hate crimes in Florida. They honored
the life of Simmie Williams, Jr., a 17 year old who was gunned down the
week prior. Simmie's murder comes at a time when nearly one in three violent
hate crimes in the state are assaults on LGBT Floridians. You can join the
effort. Ask Governor Crist and Attorney General McCollum to stop
their silence around anti-LGBT hate crimes and speak out. Email the Governor and
Attorney General NOW at
http://ga4.org/campaign/hate_crimes_2008. Only two days after Simmie
was murdered, two men were assaulted, one brutally beaten, outside of The
Floridian, an historic Fort Lauderdale
diner. Their assailant using anti-gay slurs during the assault. "You know
what I do to f****ts? I break their necks," spewed from the assailant’s
mouth before he pummeled the victim. Now comes word that a noose has been left
in a Pembrook Pines cafeteria in an apparent act of racial intimidation. We must
condemn that act as well. We must stand up to hate no matter what form it takes
and demand that others stand with the LGBT community just as visibly. We can be
horrified, but we cannot be surprised. Attacks on the LGBT community have been a
growing problem for Florida
for years. Enough is enough, it's time we take a stand and break the silence. As
a community we must not let a cold blooded murder and hate violence in our own
backyard go unaddressed. Contact the Governor and Attorney General Now! When
Ryan Skipper was murdered in PolkCounty
less than a year ago, our state leadership was silent. This silence implies a
certain acceptability to anti-LGBT hate crimes that we can no longer allow to
stand. Our horror, our outrage, our prayers are empty today until we take
action!!!
