will be appearing live at the Tampa Imrov on Friday and Saturday
January 11&12 with 2 shows nightly. On Friday her shows are at 8 & 10:30
Saturday her shows are at and 7:30 & 10. Margaret started performing stand-up at
age 16 in a comedy club called The Rose & Thistle above a
bookstore her parents ran. Soon after, she won a comedy contest where first
prize was opening for Jerry Seinfeld. She moved to Los Angeles in the
early '90s and lived in a house with several other young performers. Still in
her early twenties, Cho hit the college circuit, where she immediately became
the most booked act in the market and garnered a nomination for Campus Comedian
of The Year. Arsenio Hall introduced her to late night audiences, Bob
Hope put her on a prime time special and, seemingly overnight, Margaret Cho
became a national celebrity. In 1994, she starred in a short-lived ABC
sitcom called All-American Girl. In 1999, Margaret chronicled her
experience on the sitcom in an off Broadway one-woman show called I'm The
One That I Want. The show was extremely well received, toured the U.S.,
and was made into a concert film and a best-selling book of the same name. After
the success of her first show, Margaret launched Notorious C.H.O.
in 2001. Margaret embarked on her third sold-out national tour, Revolution,
in 2003. The tour ultimately grossed 4.4M and was heralded as "Her strongest
show yet!" by the Chicago Sun Times. That same year the CD was nominated for a
Grammy for Best Comedy Album of the Year. This year, Margaret was the
recipient of the first ever Best Comedy Performance award at the 2007 Asian
Excellence Awards. She also recently received the First Amendment Award from the
ACLU of Southern California, and the Intrepid Award from the National
Organization for Women (NOW). She has also been honored by GLAAD,
American Women in Radio and Television, the Lambda Legal Defense and Education
Fund, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF), the Asian American Legal
Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), and PFLAG for "making a significant
difference in promoting equal rights for all, regardless of race, sexual
orientation or gender identity."

Florida
Attorney General Opens Door For Domestic Partner Benefits |
|
|
Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum's Office has implemented a policy
that allows his employees to use sick leave to care for their domestic partners.
"With this pro-family policy, Attorney General McCollum has become the second
constitutional officer in Florida history to recognize the needs of
non-traditional families," said Rand Hoch, President of the Palm
Beach County Human Rights Council. The Palm Beach County Human Rights Council is
a non-profit organization that has been in the forefront of domestic partnership
issues in Florida for more than 15 years. At the Council's request, Florida CFO
Alex Sink instituted a policy permitting her office's employees to use
sick leave to care for domestic partners. On October 17, shortly after Sink's
policy went into effect, Hoch wrote to Attorney General McCollum asking him to
consider implementing a similar policy. “By doing so, in times of family
emergencies, all of your employees will have the same opportunities to care for
their family members," Hoch wrote. By letter dated December 17, Cathy
Christensen, McCollum's Human Resources Administrator, notified the Hoch
that the Attorney General's sick leave policy would not specifically address
domestic partners per se, it would "provide enough latitude" for
employees to use their sick leave to care for their domestic partners. "While
CFO Sink's policy specifically addressed domestic partnerships, Attorney General
McCollum's policy is more circumspect," said Hoch. "Since the Office of
the Attorney General is, in effect, the state's law firm, I can understand his
reluctance to formally recognize domestic partnerships," said Hoch. "Still,
the effect of both pro-family policies is the same," said Hoch. Employees
working for two of our state's constitutional officers now may use sick leave to
care for their domestic partners in times of emergency, Currently, the
University of Florida, Florida International University, Broward Community
College, Florida Keys Community College, Hillsborough Community College and
Miami-Dade College are the only state employers offering the full range of
domestic partner benefits. Those benefits include health insurance, as well as
sick leave and bereavement leave. The Palm Beach County Human Rights Council has
not yet heard from Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles
Bronson, who also was asked to revise his office's policy. Early next year,
the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council intends to ask Governor Crist
to direct Department of Management Services Secretary Linda South to
investigate the possibility of offering domestic partner benefits to all state
employees. |

Never let it be said that
the owners of
Sidelines Sports Bar
disregard their
customer’s suggestions and desires. It is because of their loyalty that this
popular gay sports bar has flourished in less than two years of business. Based
on overwhelming consensus, Sidelines is pleased to introduce a new drink special
for the New Year of 2008. Beginning on Tuesday, January 8,
Sidelines will offer their “Tuesday’s Pitchers of Beer Special”. From
9:00 PM to closing, pitchers of domestic draft beer will be sold for only $10
and pitchers of imported draft beer will be $12. Tuesday’s drink special comes
as an exclusive and innovative first for Sidelines since no other gay club in
Fort Lauderdale offers special pricing on pitchers of beer. “We continue to
grow and get better based on our loyal patrons’ helpful advice”, stated
Marty Kildea, co-owner of Sidelines Sports Bar.
As the holiday season
draws to a close, congratulations must be given to the staff of Sidelines
Sports Bar for the generosity provided to the Margaret Gorensek Family
Foundation, a charitable foundation dedicated
to helping children and families with HIV/AIDS. During the last two
weeks, the managers, bartenders and bar backs of Sidelines purchased toys,
games, dolls, and even six bicycles for the disadvantaged families in hopes
of making what would normally be a gloomy time of the year, a Christmas
filled with joy and laughter. The gifts were presented to the foundation’s
representatives last week and upon seeing the multitude of presents that
were donated, tears could be seen rolling down their cheeks. “We are
filled with both pride and appreciation at seeing such a small group of
individuals make a huge difference in so many children’s lives”,
commented Laurie Whittaker, co-owner of Sidelines Sports Bar. “Thanks
to our team’s goodhearted efforts, these kids and their families will enjoy
the holiday season so much more!”, continued Laurie. Sidelines Sports
Bar, with its 16 flat-screen TVs, 3 pool tables, 3 dartboards, and other
video games, continues to provide a fun, friendly and comfortable
environment for gay men and women who enjoy all kinds of sports. Sidelines
Sports Bar is located at 2031-A Wilton Drive, and for more information use
