Halloween
LOVED IT *****(FIVE STARS)
Buckle up, and hunker down as you get yourself ready for a
spine-chilling and quite horrible journey. This is the
perfect companion (neither a replacement nor a modern day
replica) of the previous chapters of the
Halloween
legacy. The director
Rob Zombie (House
of 1,000 Corpses) keeps true to his darker, more
sadistic style of directing. Lots of dark shadows and heavy
amounts of blood, shallow plotlines. Like the originals, the
characters in this movie lack depth, or even much character
at all. In this film, especially in the second half there
was not much dialog at all; just chasing, sex, killing, more
killing, it became almost like a one minded zombie movie.
I will say hats off to
Rob in the beginning
for he did an excellent job focusing on telling the back
story of the younger Michael (Daeg
Faerch.) He left no question of how or why
Michael became such a horrible person, or more importantly
why he constantly wears a mask.
My major complaint with the rest of the movie is the lack of
explaining. When Michael escapes prison, I wanted to see how
he was able to do it, instead it was just done. I wanted
to actually see how he was able to break the handcuffs,
etc. I also wanted his baby sister to (Scout
Taylor-Compton)
come to realize who he was and why he was after her. This
could however be his open ended segway to chapter two...
Please note this entire movie is a new interpretation, or a
re-telling of an old classic with a new twist. Basically Rob
Zombie is sitting around a camp fire and making
up a scary story. While trying to remember some of the
specific facts to keeping it Halloween realistic. (Like the
Mask for example.) However it is his very own version of
the story. So if you are a major fan of the previous
Stories, or if you have closely followed the Halloween
legend you may not like all the liberties he has taken with
the storyline or plot. However if you are not familiar with
the tale, and or if you just want to go see a scary movie,
you will be terrified.
