Go See it **** (Four Stars)

If you are ready to relive a deeply disturbing and yet very real part of our American History I highly recommend this film to you.  On September 11th, 2001 four planes were hijacked.  Three of those planes crashed into their targets and the fourth plane did not, this is the story of that plane, United Flight #93.

This film was written and directed by Paul Greengrass, who has a strong documentary background which truly came into effect for this film but may know his work as a feature films director in The Bourne Supremacy Paul did an accurate portrayal of everyday life, and was able to capture the realism and normalcy of what it must have been like to board that plane.  You see the common chatter and the un thought about actions of those people who are stressing about un important things, and not realizing that this would be their last day.
I cannot fault anyone who does not want to see this film, it is a sensitive and controversial topic, and it is definitely not for everyone and in many moments of this film it is quite painful to watch.  Especially for those that lived in New York a the time. It is one thing to see a major car crash and yet its another to see the inner workings and process of all that was involved in that car crashing.  This movie takes you there, to that dark place you are not sure you want to go.  I will say however I am truly glad I saw this movie, and it has given me a new and renewed respect for those people, not just on flight #93 but everyone that was affected on Sept 11th.
There were no famous actors "starring' in this movie, they were real people in fact many of the air traffic controllers and the military personnel are indeed playing themselves witch also makes this movie all the more real and lets you focus on the topic at hand and not gush over your favorite celebrity.
I will put to rest the idea that I did not feel that this was a political movie with a hidden agenda or message.  I feel this film was an accurate portrayal of a major, life changing piece of American History.  It also a true story, however like the Titanic we all know how the film is going to end, and that in fact made it that much more difficult to watch, knowing they had false hope.  There was a touching and tearful moment when someone called to report that the plane had been hijacked and realized that there were indeed 3 other planes that had been hijacked and that they had crashed.  Once this realization came to the passengers they started to call their families and say goodbye, and I  love you, and they pulled together and fought back, not for a common message or a pep talk, not for the betterment of mankind but as a pure and basic survival instinct.

This film was truly and accurate and thorough portrayal of everyone involved from the terrorists, to the passengers to the ground control. The interesting thing about this film was that the only real character development was in the terrorists, we saw them as they prepared to sacrifice their lives for their mission, and you watched in horror as already know the outcome and what will ultimately happen and you watch in slow agony as the terrorists take their time at first.

The most annoying thing about this film for me other than the sensitivity of the subject matter, was the camera work.  Either it was shot with an extremely low budget or they were trying to simulate realism like the The Blair Witch Project with blurry and shaky camera work.  At times the hand held camera on the plane made nauseous.

I went with a friend who lived in NY at the time and he was really upset him and irritated by this film.  For he felt there was no reason to do this movie for it didn't offer any closure.  I tend to agree, and or sympathize for if I had lived it up close and personal and relived the intense drama on film, I would most likely be upset as well.  However I don't feel that this film's goal was to offer closure for they would have to change or improperly represent history.   I do feel that the purpose of this film was to honor and recognize the people that were on that plane and how they were able to alter the course and keep it from crashing into our Capital, Washington DC.

Go and see this movie, go with full knowledge that yes it is a sensitive subject and you already know the end but go with the open mind that you will learn something and you will gain a new respect for those involved.  It has indeed been 5 years since this happened but if you lived in New York and were deeply affected by this tragedy  I would think long and hard before you go and relive it on wide screen.
By the way, the names of the actual passengers were listed in the credits with the names of the actors that portrayed them.

Go See It  ** (four Stars)

United 93 is a disturbing reenactment of the series of events that to place on September 11, 2001.  This big budget beauty is not for the faint of heart as it contains some really graphic material.

The pace of the movie was executed perfectly, it appeared to move slowly but yet you could not take your eyes off the screen for even a second.  Some of the intense fighting scenes that took place on the airplane were hard to swallow.  One can only speculate what really happened up there.
While the story line was obviously predictable, the musical score was not.  It is always impressive when you can say that the musical score of a movie was original, and that this movie was.
While it was a documentary styled movie, it showcased some amazingly good acting. Writer/Director Paul Greengrass retells a tragic story in a very couth manner without compromising the truth.  The most disturbing aspect of this movie was the lack of preparedness and communication our FAA and our federal government had during these series of unfortunate events that morning.
Whether you know someone that fell victim to this tragic day or you are simply morbidly curious...you should go see this movie.  Not only is it based on an actual event, but it is part of our recent American history. This movie is a tribute to the people of  lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and is an absolute must see.
