About Gay and Lesbian Hollywood, Florida

Hollywood Community Redevelopment Association Contact Info

Hollywood is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. Founded in 1925, the city grew quickly in the 1950s and 1960s, and is now the twelth largest city in Florida. The South Florida metropolitan area, which includes Hollywood, is home to more than six million people.

The Hollywood area is well known for its casual and laid back atmosphere, but in recent years downtown and Hollywood Beach have undergone a transformation that began with the demolition and rebuilding of the world renowned Diplomat Hotel. The Diplomat was a magnet for Hollywood celebrities, Presidents and the world's Royalty throughout most of it history. The new Diplomat Resort and Spa has reclaimed the luster and brought millions of dollars in additional revenue to the area. The economy of Hollywood has also been bolstered by Casinos like The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (a gargantuan complex rivaling anything in Vegas) and The Seminole Paradise Casino which call Hollywood home. Nearby, but not technically in Hollywood, are Gulfstream Racing Park and Casino and Mardis Gras Casino. Hollywood has wisely used the newfound money to redevelop Young Circle and the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk creating a vibrant community sandwiched between Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

The ArtsPark at Young Circle features 10 acres of tropical greenery, an outdoor Amphitheater featuring concerts, dance and other live performances, broad paved promenades for walking or jogging, a children’s area with a play fountain, and a spectacular ever-changing feature fountain designed by internationally acclaimed public artist Ritsuko Taho of Japan.

The Hollywood Beach Theater and Bandshell is on the world famous Broadwalk on Hollywood Beach, Florida. The theater is the only seaside venue of its kind in Broward County. This unique facility includes seating for 500. During performances, the Broadwalk in front of the theater becomes a spacious under the stars dance floor for hundreds of couples.

Hollywood Beach Broadwalk

The Third Saturday Artwalk in downtown Hollywood, Florida takes place in an Art and Entertainment District that stretches for several blocks along Harrison Street, Hollywood Boulevard and Federal Highway. You will find shops and dining in outdoor cafe's lining the streets. Yellow Green Farmers Market is open on Saturdays and Sundays and is located by the Sheridan Street Tri-Rail station in Hollywood, Florida. The Yellow Green Farmers Market is the largest of it's kind in Florida.
