Below The Belt With Jake Deckard Raging Stallion Studios Exclusive

Miami and Fort Lauderdale porn fans were given a treat April 21^st and 22^nd when Raging Stallion Studios Exclusive, Jake Deckard performed live on stage for the first time in South Florida.  Saturday night was hot at Discotekka in Miami and Sunday night was even hotter at Fort Lauderdale’s VooDoo Lounge where Jake’s performance became the talk of the town after he broke a few boundaries and maybe a couple laws with his startling performance!  Deckard is a true showman and knows how to please a crowd! 

Deckard has only been making movies for two years, but in that short time he has risen to the top of his game and become one of the most popular stars in the industry.  In 2006 he was nominated as Best Newcomer for the GAYVN awards and was named the 2007 Raging Stallion Man of the Year!

I had the opportunity to sit down with Jake after his performances for this in depth look into what makes this man the superstar that he is today and what his plans for the future are…and of course a few laughs along the way.  Enjoy!

GIO     Jake, thank you very much for taking the time to sit down with me for a little while.

Jake   You are very welcome Gio!

GIO     Let’s start by going back to your start in the Gay Porn Industry, how long have you been performing and where did you get your start?

Jake   I am coming up on two years performing now.  I shot my first film for Ray Dragon in April of 2005.

GIO     Why did you decide to pursue gay porn?

Jake   It was something I had been thinking about doing for several years and there were some changes in my personal relationship that made it more allowable for me to start trying to do it.  Then I met Colton Ford around the same time I was deciding to get into it and then Ray Dragon called and one thing led to another and I ended up doing the video with Ray Dragon.  Then Chi Chi LaRue got in touch with me shortly after that and as they say…the rest is history (Big Smile).

GIO     What line did you shoot with Chi Chi LaRue?

Jake   Hmmm…man, I have done so many now I cannot remember the name (Laughs).  It was for Unzipped with John Galt and Derrick Hanson and it was called….hmmm…Night Callers!  Phew, I remembered (Big Laugh).

GIO     So many movies since then, it can be tough to remember. So, you went from Ray Dragon to Chi Chi Larue and then you were with Titan Men and now exclusive with Raging Stallion, tell me about that period?

Jake   I was signed exclusive with Titan for about a year at first and when my contract was up with Titan; Chris Ward got in touch with me from Raging Stallion and said they were very interested in me, as was JD Slater.  To be honest it was a very quick thing and they asked if I would do a few videos with them.  Chris Ward and I hit it off well and then they offered me a long-term contract of about two years at Raging Stallion.

GIO     That is excellent!  Well you certainly have made an impression with each studio and video you have been in.  Looking back over the past two years, what do you consider is your best performance?

Jake   Well for me the one video that I can actually watch myself in without gagging (Laughs) is Instinct and particularly the scene with Matthieu Paris.  It was a fun scene to shoot, it was edited beautifully and we both looked totally hot together and it came out very good overall. 

I have an upcoming film in which I did a scene with Trey Casteel and the filming of our scene was very hot and we were both very intense with each other and I am hoping that it comes out as well on film as it felt for me filming it! (Big Grin) Damn, Trey is a totally hot man…

GIO     I loved that scene in Instinct as well!  One of my favorite things to watch in porn, are the bloopers.  What is the funniest or most embarrassing thing that has happened to you while shooting a scene?

Jake   When we were filming Mirage, I brought a rubber chicken on to the set with me. We were shooting in a plane and while we were shooting dialogue scenes for the B-Role, we would pull the chicken out and mess each others lines up or throw the chicken out of the planes window (Laughs).  Matt Cole was a very fun person to work with as well in Instinct and Lords of the Jungle; he has a great sense of humor.  Like most of us in this business, he is not really the same person you see on the screen.  He is one of the most hysterical people I have worked with and he can flip it on and off pretty quick while shooting.

GIO     Sounds like that was a blast to shoot!  Speaking of not being the same person on screen and off, you are always portrayed as a very intense sexual partner in your scenes and you totally exude sexuality.  What is it that trips your trigger when the lights come on and the camera starts rolling?

Jake   You know it is so funny and this answer is going to be so “gay” (He laughs).  What is that movie about Bob Fosse called?

GIO     All that Jazz?

Jake   Yeah, there is a scene in that film where he is looking in the mirror and and he then says “Show Time!”  That scene always pops in my head when the lights come on and the camera’s start rolling and I then just go with it and get into the moment with whomever I am partnered with for the scene.  Now that I am getting into more production work, I now see what the camera sees better and as a performer I have learned how to play for the camera better too.  Also, doing the live performances for me has helped me on the set as well because this is now all becoming more natural to me.  The bottom line is that I love it!  I love doing it and I love the attention.

GIO     Speaking of live performances, you have just completed a couple amazing live shows at Discotekka in Miami and Voo Doo Lounge in Fort Lauderdale, what drives you to be so dynamic on stage?  It really appeared to me watching you and photographing you that you were really enjoying yourself!

Jake   One of my best friends really nailed this down for me one time when we were on the dance floor…he looked at me and said “you know what, you are just like me…you are an attention whore!” (Laughs)  I had never really thought of me in those terms before, but generally I really think that most of us performing in porn are exactly that…attention whores!  I really love it when I walk out on stage.  Especially if the people watching are really into it and I can feel their energy coming into me when I am up there.  Or…I also find that sometimes when I do something on stage that is totally outrageous and I see the audience with blank stares of shock or whatever, that it is fun to just start fucking with them and pushing the envelope so-to-speak…after all I am a porn guy (Laughs)!

GIO     I totally get that from you and I can attest that Fort Lauderdale will be buzzing about your over the top performance at VooDoo Lounge for a long time!  You certainly pushed the envelope in that performance!

Jake   I just really had a good time and thought that the club was totally cool with me getting raunchy on stage.  They sold me on the idea that the other porn stars have been doing this type of show all along and I guess I pushed the boundaries a little bit.  At one point I looked at the audience and saw their faces and many seemed shocked (Laughing) It wasn’t until I heard the voice over the microphone tell me to “put it away” that I was aware I was going too far.  Basically I was just having a good time and working the crowd (Laughs)!  But, everyone who came up after the show had great things to say and so did the manager of the club (who was pretty hot himself), so I think they all liked it!

GIO     Yes, your performance was a little more risqué than others I’ve seen at that club, but not one person complained and the audience sure loved it!  I even got a couple phone calls about it asking if it was true that you were naked or not!

Jake   Really?  I love that…the rumors are already flying around town.  The best part for me is that I really did not go very far on stage and I am sure that the rumors will far supersede what I actually did on stage.  For me, when I get on stage it is Jake Deckard up there and I just let my character take over and go with it and have a great time.  I REALLY had a great time at Voo Doo Lounge!

  GIO   Now that you are getting more into the production side of the business, where do you see the industry going in the next few years with the fact that more and more people are getting their porn online through streaming it vs. buying DVD’s?

Jake   Wow, if I could answer that I would not be working in porn, I would be working in the music industry or movie industry.  It seems that everyone is up against the same thing with the internet and waiting to see whether or not DVDs’ are going to go the way of the dinosaur.   I am even part of a test to see if it is possible to have a new type of technology that will allow anyone the ability to have live viewing of a catalogue of each porn made at Raging Stallion.  Of course there is a lot to be worked out before that happens, like license fees and the like.  I would say that eventually DVD’s will be gone and everyone in the entertainment industry is going to have to figure out ways to protect their content and get paid for their work. 

It is unfortunate that there are so many lawsuits filed about this subject and more so in the music industry with downloading of music, as much as the consumers may hate it, now that I am on the other side of the business I recognize how important it is for movie studios (both porn and mainstream) to protect their content and make the money they should be making for their work.  Everyone from the performers to the producers are working very hard to make quality entertainment and I totally get it now that when people download or copy that product for free it is fucking everyone involved in the business.  So, something needs to happen to keep everyone happy because if there is no profit in making the films than the studios will stop producing.

GIO     Very well said and so true!  Let’s step away from porn for a moment.  If I were to ask your two closest friends what you best qualities are what would they tell me?

Jake   That I have a really fucked up sense of humor and that I am generally a pretty nice guy overall.

GIO     Well I would agree with them (Both Laugh).  What would they say you need to work on?

Jake   That I am too impulsive and sometimes that can be a problem, you can do that when you are a kid with no problems, but as an adult you need to be a little less impulsive.

GIO     What do you consider is your best physical attribute?

Jake   I don’t know, I am amazed that people look at anything on me (Laughs).  I guess I would have to say my legs.

GIO     Tell me about your tattoos and their meanings.

Jake   Well some of them are personal, but the compass is about direction in life, the heart has my boyfriends name and that is about love…I have a devil with angel wings and that kind of explains itself…and the Chinese character means “Master of ones self.” 

GIO     Very cool, thank you for sharing that.  How did you get your porn name?

Jake   Well Jake is my real first name and Deckard is the protagonist in Blade Runner.  When I was thinking of the name I wanted something cool and something that if it were Googled it would not come up with other interference.  I had another name as well but Ray Dragon said no way to that one and I will not even tell you what that one was (Big laugh).  The only bad thing with this name is that people have trouble spelling it (Laughs) as seen in the advertising down here for my shows.  It was spelled three different ways in the ads and only one magazine got it correct (Laughs).

GIO     I noticed that with the ads and even contacted one of the designers to point out the error on your behalf.

Jake   Thank you for that!  It happens everywhere I go though and I am used to it now.  But for the record, it is spelled D-E-C-K-A-R-D and I know it does not sound very American so I am forgiving most of the time.

GIO     What is in your MP3 or CD player right now?

Jake   Timberland, I love their new CD.  Also the KILLERS – Sams Town has to be the best CD in the past decade for me.

GIO     Great music!  Aside from porn, what are you passionate about in life?

Jake   I am always trying to move forward…but I am very slow about things, kind of like and old goat.  Believe it or not I am a late bloomer so to speak.  Right now I am still trying to get a house settled and I am very passionate about my relationship that I have managed to carry through for the past 10 years.  My partner is a really great guy and most people would think…oh a porn guy cannot maintain a relationship and why would anyone want to be in a relationship with a porn guy, but everyone in this business is different and we all have different reasons for doing it.  I am lucky to have a wonderful partner and he and I are totally cool with each other.

GIO     That is awesome.  What do you attribute the success of your 10 year relationship to?

Jake   The bottom line is that we are both good people and it was shear dumb luck that we found each other and that is really about it.

GIO     If you could do anything you wanted in your next movie, what would your ultimate scene fantasy be?

Jake   I would like to shoot a scene with Bo Knight, but I know he is not available for hardcore scenes, but this is fantasy after all!  I would actually like the scene to be in a bed!  Mainly because in porn you never get a chance to shoot in a nice bed, it is always in strange locations but never a bed! (Laughs)  To be honest, the hottest sex scenes I have ever seen were in a bed and I think that is because the guys were able to relax and not worry about a rock jutting up their ass or getting a splinter from wood or bitten by bugs (Laughs).  So it would be us going at each other in a nice comfortable bed!

GIO     You are so right!  I cannot remember the last porn I watched where the guys were having sex in a normal bed!  I think you are on to something here…and I also think that Bo Knight is totally hot!

Jake   Yeah, I have been pushing Chris Ward and hopefully I will be doing a scene soon in a bed.

GIO     What are you going to be doing on the production side at Raging Stallion?

Jake   You know I am very lucky and the guys at Raging Stallion have invited me into a realm that a lot of porn performers never get to go into.  Right now I am learning editing and so I am really starting at the bottom (so to speak, laughs) and work my way up learning as I go.  Chris Ward would like to see me do stuff in the future that is more my own, like they did with Michael Brandon and his Monster Bang Line.  That is a bit down the road before that happens as I still have a lot to learn before they green light me to shoot my own stuff.  For me it all boils down to time right now as I have a lot going on with the editing, shooting my scenes, my massage business and my live appearance schedule.  So it will take some time for me to learn everything and balance everything.  On top of all that my partner and I also did a cross country move from NY to San Francisco and I am still waiting for the dust to settle from that move…so it is all coming together.

GIO     It is great to have Raging Stallion backing you in your efforts to learn the entire production side of the business and I wish you all the best with that!  It must be a great feeling for you to have Chris Ward giving so much to you in terms of training, your contract and a future with the company.

Jake   Everyone at Raging Stallion has been great!  Chris Ward and JD Slater have been absolutely amazing to me and they genuinely treat their talent very well.  They have gone above and beyond for me and for that I am truly appreciative.  At times I worry that I am not living up to their expectations of me and I am also the guy that is very driven and whenever I have a chance I am at the studio or on set observing, watching and learning all I can.  I also check in with them periodically and ask about how the videos with me in them are doing as I want to make sure that the money they have invested in me is giving them a return.

GIO     That is awesome!  Tell me about your website, www.JakeDeckard.com

Jake   The website has been growing, but it has a lot more to come.  I am working on doing some webcam stuff in the near future and I just started a Blog.  You know, porn star blogs always amuse me for some reason as I find them uninteresting because they focus more on how “fabulous” they are or who they know and stuff like that.  I am calling my “Upward Curve” and I want it to be more like Carrie Bradshaw (Sex in the City) and from the point of view of a married porn star and what our lives look like and what my life looks like and the things that I take away from each circumstance that I am in.  When you do these types of performances you always walk away with some type of self learning and I want to record those experiences in my blog and make it interesting for the reader.  I just really want to produce a good blog that is interesting beyond just Jake Deckard.

GIO     Excellent, sounds like an interesting read.  I love the title “Upward Curve” I assume that is a play on words (Laughing)?

Jake   Yes, absolutely it refers to not only my physical by emotional side (Laughs)...read about my dick and my life (Big Laugh).

GIO     What do you have coming up next?  You mentioned a scene earlier with Trey Casteel, anything else exciting to share?

Jake   That film is called Centurion Muscle IV and he and I beat the shit out of each other in that scene, it is HOT!  The intensity between he and I happened very fast and I will admit that I did not think that Trey would be into me because I thought I was not his type for some reason.  I was surprised at the level of attraction we both had for each other and by the end of the scene we were totally into it and punching, spitting and really going at it…yeah, it was amazingly HOT!  Even now if he and I are in the same room with each other there is a true animal sense that still exists with he and I and that is very cool.

GIO     What other projects do you have?

Jake   Well Mirage is just being released and that was a great movie to film as well.  After that, my next big movie is called Grunt that we are filming out in California and it is a big military themed movie.  It is a very ambitious project and I am looking forward to it.  It is also a lengthy shoot of three weeks, which is not the norm in most porn films.  I also co-Directed with JD Slater for Centurion Pictures, Roid Rage which has just being released and is a hot film.

GIO     Wow, that is all exciting stuff.

Jake   Yeah, I am very excited about all these films and I also get to be in front and behind the scenes in all these shoots.

GIO     What type of porn do you like to watch?

Jake   I am very happy that the studios are going back to the unshaved look.  Although I recognize there is a market for the smooth buffed bodies, and there are times when I will pop in a Falcon movie to see those types of models.  You know, a shaved asshole getting fucked by a big dick can be hot, but that is not what I want to see all the time.  I also like to watch raunchy, sweaty man sex too and that type of porn is a total turn on to me.  The fact is that there is a type of porn for all tastes out there and variety is a good thing. 

GIO     OK, let’s have some fun now…Boxers or Briefs?

Jake   (Laughs) None of course!  I like commando or a jock.

GIO     If you could be any animal what would you be and why?

Jake   I would like to be a dog in a happy gay household.

GIO     Well that answers this question I think…Cats or Dogs?

Jake   I like both…I am versatile (Laughs).

GIO     What movie have you seen lately that you really thought was great?

Jake   Grind House, it was really over the top and gory! 

GIO     I will have to check that one out.  Do you like to watch live stage shows as well?

Jake   The last live show I saw that I thought was totally great and hot was Zumanity in Vegas.  I really like the sensual and sexy side of that show.

GIO     I love that show, I have seen it 4 times myself!  Do you have any more live appearances coming up?

Jake   I will be at IML in Chicago for the 1^st time and I am looking forward to that entire event.  I have a lot of friends going and it should be a great time.  I am also performing at the Parliament House in Orlando over Gay Days and that should be a good time as well.

GIO     What advice would you give to anyone wanting to pursue a career in porn?

Jake   Start out at the top with the top studios…try to get as much money as you can get and never take yourself too seriously and keep yourself grounded.

GIO     That is good advice.  I really appreciate you taking the time to do this interview and I look forward to watching what you do in the future and I am sure there are more great things out there for you because you are truly a great guy!
