Cruz has been impressing audiences with his acting abilities
since he was in college. Pursuing his career with a combination
of courage and talent, Cruz’ career kick-started when he
auditioned for a role in the groundbreaking series My
So-Called Life. He was cast as Rickie Vazquez: a young gay
teen struggling with his sexual orientation. Although the show
did not last long, looking back on it Cruz once remarked, “I
don’t know that I'll ever be more proud of anything, in my life
or career.” Much of that pride comes from the gratifying
knowledge that he has been able to make a name for himself as a
young, openly gay actor in Hollywood. After My So-Called
Life, Cruz earned fans and critical acclaim for his
performance as Angel in Rent. He was also cast in
television dramas such as Party of Five, ER, The West Wing,
The Closer and Noah’s Arc and films such as
Johns, All Over Me, Party Monster and
Coffee Date. He recently completed filming alongside
Drew Barrymore in He’s Just Not That Into You.
Despite his full schedule as a successful actor, Cruz makes time
to reach out to his community. Cruz has filmed a PSA about the
issue of homeless LGBT youth and has volunteered his time as
host for the Youth Zone, an online community at Gay.com for LGBT
youth.
