  • Pam's House Blend: "The very purpose of a Bill of Rights was to withdraw certain subjects from the vicissitudes of political controversy, to place them beyond the reach of majorities and officials, and to establish them as legal principles to be applied by the courts.  One's right to life, liberty, and property, to free speech, a free press, freedom of worship and assembly, and other fundamental rights may not be submitted to vote; they depend on the outcome of no elections." ...Justice Jackson, W.Va. board of Ed. vs. B. Arnette, US Supreme Court 1940. Worried About Marriage in California
  • Urban Dictionary: gaybie, the child of a gay couple. Usage: "Have you had the chance to see Dan & Terry's gaybie? He is absolutely fabulous and cute as a button!"
  • Brent CorriganQueerty: I sat down (over google chat) with San Diego's Brent Corrigan, the 21 year-old adult film star who made his first "adult" film at 16. Corrigan made headlines with his involvement in the murder investigation of porn director Bryan Kocis, which has been written about in Out Magazine and Rolling Stone. Brent and I chatted about his work, from Another Gay Sequel to the launch of his new website, his feelings on Barack Obama, and the fight to reject Proposition Eight. Brent Corrigan Sits Down With Queerty
  • SameSame.com.au: They said it was impossible, but we’re hearing reports that openly gay gold medal Olympian Matthew Mitcham is about to sign on his first national sponsor, just as he inks a deal with the same management as Ian Thorpe. With our ear close to the ground, word has trickled back that Mitcham is very close to signing on to be the new face and, well, bum of swimwear and underpants brand aussieBum. Matthew Mitcham Gets First National Sponsor?
  • Gay Agenda: A gay Jamaican man — one of the longest-held detainees at the Northwest Detention Center — has won a second chance to remain in the United States after a federal appeals court in a ruling this week pointed to a “pattern and practice of persecution” of gays in his Caribbean homeland. Gay Jamaican Immigrant Gains Reprieve
  • Simon Kienzle by Sandro BrossBeautiful Mag: About two years ago we discovered Sandro Bross and introduced him to the world as a hair stylist with a strong passion for photography. Completely self taught, Sandro has been able to build himself an impressive portfolio in this short period of time, which he showcases on his personal photography website. A website that he constantly updates with new models, and evolutionary work. Simon Kienzle by Sandro Bross
  • Lesbian Nation: Where does a lesbian gamer go when she wants to hang out with the girls? Well, the good news is there are a growing number of lesbian and women-oriented gaming sites ripe for exploration on the web these days. So join us for a rundown of six hot hangouts for gaming news, reviews and interaction for girl gamers on the net. A Virtual Lesbian Life: Where the Girls Are
  • South Florida Blade: Approximately 150 teams came to Seattle in late August from across the U.S. and Canada, including Fort Lauderdale, for the annual NAGAA gay softball World Series, dubbed “Northwest Quest.” The teams played in four divisions of open play, plus a separate women’s division. Strong Showing by Fort Lauderdale Softball
  • In Case You Didn't Know: “I think we’re all sick of trying to be a ‘Skinny Minnie,’” says Valerie Bertinelli, the Jenny Craig spokesperson. “Not all of us are born that way. A lot of us have to struggle, and we don’t want to struggle anymore. Valerie Bertinelli: ‘Sick of Trying to be a Skinny Minnie’
  • Bricks and Stones: Katie Holmes kicked off previews for her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons on Thursday along with some anti-Scientology protestors. The activists wore Guy Fawkes masks popularized by the novel and film “V for Vendetta” and carried placards saying “Scientology is a cult,” “Run, Katie, Run!” and “Free Katie, Keep Tom” and shouting “How many more must die?” outside the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City. Katie Holmes’ Broadway Show Picketed by Scientology Protestors
  • Obama's trying hard to make his point with a fly in the face

  • Salon: At the closing bell on Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 368 points, to 11388.44. That's still not back to where it began the week, 11421.99, but it's not far off. Investors seem assuaged by the government's commitment to spend possibly as much as one trillion dollars taking mortgage-related assets off the books of American financial corporations. An extra reason to celebrate: at the end of the business day in New York, no major financial institutions appeared in imminent danger of collapse. So let's step back for a moment, away from the immediate headlines. Exhausted by the pace of keeping up with minute-by-minute financial chaos, I took a break for the last hour or so and read Alex Tabarrok's "The Separation of Commercial and Investment Banking: The Morgans vs. The Rockefellers," published in the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics in 1998. A History Lesson from the Great Depression
  • Slate: Fashion Week last week in New York, where the first leg of the spring 2009 season ended Friday, the best American designers seemed dissatisfied with the ordinary. Marc Jacobs offered elegant zaniness. Ralph Lauren showed sexy luxury. Rodarte gave us a Goth-glam fantasy. These collections were beautiful and well-received. But were they American?  New York Designers Re-Envision the American Woman.
  • New York Times: The Bush administration, moving to prevent an economic cataclysm, urged Congress on Friday to grant it far-reaching emergency powers to buy hundreds of billions of dollars in distressed mortgages despite many unknowns about how the plan would work. Henry M. Paulson Jr., the Treasury secretary, made it clear that the upfront cost of the rescue proposal could easily be $500 billion, and outside experts predicted that it could reach $1 trillion.
