Out in Miami and
SoBe |
|
SoBe Social Club,
Simple Life Thursdays
at Buck 15 Lounge.
Score
Get Loose Thursdays, no cover.
Twist, 2-4-1 Thursdays |
For
MGLFF’s August Monthly Screening, they are proud to present a sneak preview of
one of the most eagerly awaited independent films of the year in the Miami
community, co-directors Wash Westmoreland & Richard Glatzer’s Quinceañera at Regal
Cinemas
South Beach at 7:30pm.
Quinceañera
is a
milagro – a miraculous
exploration of racial, class and sexual tensions colliding in a working class
Latino neighborhood undergoing a rapid gentrification. Fourteen-year-old
Magdalena (Emily Roos) is like any Latina her age – she’s obsessed with her
upcoming quinceañera, the elaborate 2,500-year-old ritual still revered in
Latino culture as the transitional moment when a young girl becomes a woman. For

Metro
Pictures: Part 2
You
may be wondering if this show has to deal with the Metro
Golden Mayer Production Company…no. Metro Pictures
“refers to snapshots of the city” and that the works
“define, interpret and/or reject the city.” This show
is wide open to interpretation and includes stuff like a
set of musical vests that “only when two participants
wear them…do the sculptures emit sound.” The exhibit is
on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art until
September 17th. The Museum is located at 770
NE 125th Street in North Miami. You can
either call 305*893-6211 or visit them on the web at
www.mocanomi.org for further information.
