We are about to announce to the public a significant
change in the programming of our Broward element for 2006. We have
re-named our traditional MGLFF in Broward sidebar "FABULOUS FORT
LAUDERDALE" and changed venues to the Gateway Cinemas on
Sunrise Blvd. in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. We are pleased to be moving
to the Gateway as the theater has recently installed state-of-the-art
digital projection equipment, and to be in a more central and
visible venue in an area with easier access to pre- and post-
show restaurants, cafes and bars.
To celebrate this announcement, we are holding a
special preview screening of a new documentary directed by
Joseph Lovett entitled GAY SEX
IN THE '70s. This documentary examines the unbridled sexual
passion and exploration that marked the twelve years from stonewall
(1969) to the first reported cases of AIDS (1981). With access to a
filmic and photographic treasure trove of erotic life on New
York’s West Side Piers, trucks, bars, dance clubs, baths and beaches,
Lovett’s cast of storytellers takes us from the remarkably repressed
pre-Stonewall period to an era of sexual excess unparalleled since ancient Rome.
Having screened in L.A. OUTFEST, this documentary will especially appeal to
those who enjoyed MGLFF's presentation of the Fire Island history documentary
WHEN OCEAN MEETS SKY in our 2005 Festival.
The Gateway Cinemas is located at the corner of the large
curve where NE 18th Ave & US1 meet on Sunrise Blvd in Ft. Lauderdale. If you are
coming from I-95, take the Sunrise Blvd. exit eastbound until you hit the large
curve of the traffic circle. You really can't miss it!
